Our Food Suppliers
Second Harvest Food Bank supplies the majority of our food for distribution. Every Thursday, we receive a delivery of approximately 4,500 pounds of food to our warehouse. Additional food for distribution comes from local sources such as community gardens, retail partners including IGA and Walmart, the Oberlin Food Hub and the Oberlin community.
We partner with Oberlin IGA, Walmart, Panera, Subway, Pizza Hut and other retail stores for food donation and delivery.
Churches, schools and many organizations in our community are partners in supplying food, household items, clothing and toiletries to OCS. Individual community members can drop off any of these items during normal business hours.
The People's Garden, our on-site community garden, allows us to offer freshly picked produce to our clients. We partner with other local community gardens and individuals to increase our fresh produce offerings.
The Oberlin Food Hub is an organization that supplies fresh, local produce from farmers in Ohio. The Hub provides infrastructure for small and medium sized local farmers to aggregate their produce and sell into local markets with high demands, keeping our food and dollars local. The Food Hub provides deliveries to us on a monthly basis.
Food rescue, also called food recovery or food salvage, is the practice of gleaning edible food that would otherwise go to waste. Food from places such as restaurants, grocery stores, produce markets, or dining facilities is distributed to local emergency food programs such as OCS. Volunteer drivers are always needed to pick up food rescue items.
