Tutoring Opportunities

tutors at workAmerica Counts:
Our America Counts tutoring is currently divided into two separate programs:

  1. The first is an after-school tutoring program that targets 4th and 5th graders who have been selected by teachers as needing an extra boost to prepare them for middle school. We hire and train Oberlin College students to work one-on-one or in small groups with the 4th and 5th graders. We stay in close contact with the teaching staff to help ensure that our program helps to directly reinforce classroom learning and prepare students for achievement tests.
  2. We also work with teachers at Prospect Elementary and Langston Middle schools to place math tutors in the classrooms. In-class tutors help through a variety of tasks, including one-on-one tutoring, homework grading, assessment, and classroom management.

Oberlin College students:
If you would like to tutor, please call Zac Hoyer-Leitzel at (440) 774-6579 or email him at AmericaCounts@Oberlin.net. Our application is also available for download. Pay for students with Federal Work Study grants is available.

Parents:
If you are interested in having your child participate in the 4th- or 5th-grade after-school program please speak with their teachers or email AmericaCounts@Oberlin.net.

Our America Counts program is generously funded through the Oberlin School Endowment, The Nordson Corporation Foundation, and Oberlin College.
