Giving to OCS

Oberlin Community Services welcomes cash contributions of all sizes. In fact, we rely on personal contributions for up to a third of our operating budget each year.

Community Giving Campaign kicks off

The annual Oberlin Community Giving Campaign is getting under way. Employees of Oberlin College, Oberlin City Schools, and the City of Oberlin have an opportunity to pledge a monthly contribution via payroll deduction to OCS or another community organization.

Last year the campaign, raised $47,132 for the selected community organizations. As Oberlin City Schools Superintendent John Schroth, Oberlin College President Marvin Krislov, and Oberlin City Manager Eric Norenberg noted in their letter of support, "Given the current state of the economy, it is especially important to remember the less fortunate among us. We are writing today to encourage you to participate."

If you work for the College, the Oberlin City Schools, or the City, you can download the Community Giving pledge form and start that process going now.

Giving the old-fashioned way

Donations can also be dropped off at or mailed to our office at 285 South Professor St., Oberlin, OH 44074. Please make checks out to Oberlin Community Services. All gifts to OCS are tax deductible as allowed by federal and state law.

Investment giving

OCS also encourages gifts of stocks and mutual funds. This kind of gift allows the donor to receive a charitable deduction for the full, fair-market value of the gift without being subject to a capital gains tax on the appreciation. For more information on making a gift of securities, contact our Executive Director Linda Arbogast at (440) 774 6579 or execdirector@oberlin.net.

OCS Sustainers

The OCS Sustainers Initiative was established in 2009 to promote the organization's financial stability and enhance its planning process. Sustainers pledge to donate at least $100 annually for at least two consecutive years.

To read more about the program or become a Sustainer, download the OCS Sustainer pledge form.

Why give to Oberlin Community Services?

Since 1955, Oberlin Community Services (OCS) has supported the community in sensitive and caring ways. The OCS staff, Oberlin College work-study students, and more than a hundred volunteers join forces with schools, churches, medical and social service providers, civic groups, businesses, and government to offer a wide array of services to low-income citizens of Oberlin and Southern Lorain County.

For more specifics on how we operate and who we help each month, please look at our annual report.
